The inflorescence resembles a pincushion, hence the name. However, the flower tips are not prickly, but rather quite soft.

Cut diagonally and split the stem ends with pruning shears to promote water absorption. Remove all excess leaves so they don't reach into the water. Temperatures of 10–15 degrees Celsius are ideal.
