Choose a sturdy, tall vase for the sunflowers so that no leaves stick out into the water and the sunflower can stand upright.
For the approximately 70 - 80 cm long sunflowers from Tom Flowers, we recommend the TF Vase Large.
Fill the vase with cool to lukewarm water to at least 2/3 full, or so that the stems are in the water just below the leaves.
Dissolve the enclosed care product in water.
Strip a densely leafed flower stem down to one or two leaves, leaving them on the sunflower as decoration. Excess foliage wastes the sunflower's energy, which would be better spent on flowering. No leaves should be sticking into the water at the end.
Cut the sunflowers as long and diagonally as possible using a sharp, clean knife.
Contrary to some assumptions, the sunflower should no longer be exposed to direct sunlight after cutting.
To prevent the sunflower from wilting or rotting too quickly, do not place it in a place that is too warm or near fruit.
Once the sunflowers are properly established, they need to be cared for regularly: Change the water every 2-3 days and prune the sunflower again with a sharp knife as described above. The hotter the days, the more often you should prune.
Order flowers conveniently today and have them delivered on your desired date.
It's natural that the lifespan of fresh sunflowers is unpredictable. Top-quality, day-fresh sunflowers should stay fresh for 7-10 days with proper care. However, the actual lifespan depends on many factors, including proper handling, regular maintenance, and, finally, temperature: The warmer it is, the faster sunflowers wilt.
Sunflowers can be cut diagonally with a clean, sharp knife or TF flower scissors . This maximizes water absorption without damaging the water channels in the stem.
Never place your sunflowers next to a fruit bowl. Ripe fruit emits ethylene, a gas that causes premature withering.
Never place sunflowers in direct sunlight or any other warm location. Otherwise, the flowers will evaporate more water than they can absorb through their stems and will quickly die of thirst.
Leaves that extend into the water promote the formation of bacteria in the water. These, in turn, attack the cut flowers, leading to faster wilting.
We recommend placing sunflowers in cold water.
Sunflowers symbolize light, life and fertility through their resemblance to the sun.
There's a theory that you should briefly immerse sunflowers in hot water before storing them in lukewarm water to prevent rot. The hot water is supposed to cauterize the cut surface and thus close it. However, researchers have already proven the opposite, so we recommend using this tip with caution and never keeping the flowers in hot water for more than a few seconds.
