With proper care, roses will stay fresh longer in a vase. Follow our rose care tips, and their beautiful, classic blooms should last for between 7 and 10 days.
Rose care tips
1. Suitable vase for roses
A large, long vase is ideal for roses, ensuring at least two-thirds of the stems are in the vase. Important: The vase must be clean.
For the approximately 60cm long hybrid tea roses from Tom Flowers we recommend the TF Vase Medium .
2. Roses need a lot of water
Fill the vase with lukewarm water to at least 2/3 full, or so that the stems are in the water just below the leaves.
Dissolve the enclosed care product in water.
3. Remove leaves and thorns
Remove as many leaves and thorns from the bottom up so that only the top 2-3 shoots remain.
The leaves must not be allowed to protrude into the water later on. Leaves in the water will quickly begin to rot and cause the flowers to wilt.
4. Cut roses diagonally
Using a sharp, clean knife or TF flower scissors, cut the roses about 3-5 cm long and at an angle, if possible. The larger the foam-like, angled surface in the stem, the better the water absorption.
After cutting, place the rose immediately in water so that the cut area does not dry out and no air gets into the water channels of the rose stems.
5. No sun, warmth and fruit
Avoid placing the roses in direct sunlight, in a place that is too warm, or near fruit.
Roses need regular care
Once the roses are properly established, they need to be cared for regularly: Change the water every few days and prune the roses again with a sharp knife as described above. The hotter the days, the more often you should prune.

Tips & Tricks for Roses
How long do fresh roses last in a vase?
It's natural that the lifespan of fresh roses cannot be accurately predicted. Top-quality, day-fresh roses should stay fresh for up to 14 days with proper care. However, the actual lifespan depends on many factors, such as proper handling, regular care, and, finally, temperature: The warmer it is, the faster the roses fade.
How do you properly cut roses in a vase?
Roses should be cut diagonally with a clean, sharp knife. This maximizes water absorption without damaging the water channels in the stem.
Why shouldn't you place roses next to fruit?
Never place your roses next to a fruit bowl. Ripe fruit emits ethylene, a gas that causes premature flowering.
Why shouldn't you put roses in the sun?
Never place roses in direct sunlight. Otherwise, the flowers will evaporate more water than they can absorb through their stems and will quickly die of thirst.
Why shouldn't the leaves reach into the water?
Leaves that extend into the water promote the formation of bacteria in the water. These, in turn, attack the cut flowers, causing them to wilt more quickly.
What water temperature should I keep roses in a vase?
We recommend filling the vase for roses with lukewarm water.
Can you dry roses?
Roses will last even longer when dried. To achieve this, remove the roses from the water at their most beautiful stage, when in full bloom, and hang them upside down in a warm, dry place until the flowers are completely dry.
What is the significance of roses?
The rose symbolizes love and trust. No matter where or who you are, the undisputed queen of flowers is always welcome.
What to do when the heads of the roses are drooping?
If the roses appear limp and their heads droop, that's no reason to throw them away. They're probably lacking water. Cut the roses diagonally with a sharp knife and then place them in a hot water bath, just below the heads, for about two hours—but be careful, only hot, not boiling.
The hot water pushes any air bubbles that might be clogging the roses' waterways out of the stem and improves water absorption.
